Games That Have That Bethesda Feel…
<< UNDER CONSTRUCTION >>
There has always been something about Bethesda games like The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Skyrim that have this very distinct “Bethesda feel”…
No, not THAT Bethesda feel.
I’m talking about games that have that immersive, first person exploration feel that Bethesda games are typically known for.
This list is going to include all games that have that type of feel, minus third person perspective games because taking the player out of the eyes of the character is less immersive imo. (Or I should say it’s a different kind of immersive)
I’ve noticed many lists that include third person games, on lists of “games like Skyrim” but these games share similarities in terms of the setting, fantasy genre or gameplay but not necessarily that first person immersion.
For this list, the types of features I am looking for are:
- A first person perspective.
- A leveling system or character growth of some kind. (Skills, perks, abilities, etc.)
- An open world or semi-open world.
- And the ability to rifle through people’s shit.
Before anyone gets triggered and lists off all the games that paved the way for Skyrim, let me preface this post by saying I am looking for modern experiences like Ultima VII: The Black Gate. A game I was highly addicted to as a kid, that most likely kindled my passion for rifling through people’s shit in games.
So with that in mind, here is my list of recommendations for games that have that immersive, first person exploration and character growth found in many of Bethesda’s most popular titles.
ACTUAL BETHESDA GAMES & FULLSCALE MODS
LIST OF BETHESDA GAMES AND FULLSCALE MODS
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (2002)
“Tamriel Rebuilt”: Tamriel (Morrowind Mod) (2006)
“Skywind”: Morrowind (Skyrim SE Mod) (TBA)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006)
“Skyblivion”: Oblivion (Skyrim SE Mod) (2025)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)
Avowed (2024)
It’s not out yet BUT I know it’s going to be good because it’s from Obsidian.
Cyberpunk 2077 (2020)
This game was completely F@$&#D up at launch but CD Project Red has really managed to turn it around into a pretty fun game with a good story.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011)
The first 2 original games don’t hold up as well graphically but they are still fun and worth a look if you are feeling nostalgic.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (2016)
Dishonored (2012)
Dishonored feels more linear than some of the other games on this list but still has some decent immersion, the ability to rifle through people’s stuff and fun gameplay.
Dishonored 2 (2016)
Enderal (2016)
While technically a Skyrim Mod, Enderal does not take place in The Elder Scrolls universe. Enderal is it’s own world, with it’s own story and it’s own lore, so I am placing it on the main list outside of the Bethesda games and Elder Scrolls fan projects.
